The Polaroid instant film camera is back — and it... →
The new Polaroid 300, which snaps and prints business-card-size photos, doesn’t look a thing like the angular Polaroid SX-70 that ruled the 1970s. Instead, the new Polaroid is all circles and rounded edges — just like the Fujifilm Instax Mini 7.
How did I miss this?

Last night, Rog and Holden came over with Mike because their song “Tora Tora Tora” was added to Rock Band. Rog killed the bass line on expert, but Holden failed on guitar and 88 percented his own vocals. Mike pointed out the song was so old he had actually played it a few times live. Then we all melted because there was six people and an overheating Xbox in a tiny room on a hundred...

"Diana" →
My short, short story “Diana” was published in Ekleksographia (don’t worry, I can’t pronounce the name either) last week. I wrote it back in October for a flash fiction class I was taking at Lesley. Former fellow Emmanuel College English dept. all-star Eliza also has a piece in the same issue.

what is a gameboy camera
The Game Boy Camera is the worst idea Nintendo has had besides the Virtual Boy. And by “worst” I mean “best.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Camera It came with a printer. The paper is old and dried out and doesn’t work anymore but you can use receipts and other heat sensitive paper!

Hipster Dad, Season 1
As I mentioned yesterday, since the stupid Geico cavemen got their own show and a movie starring the ETRADE baby has been optioned, I plan on spinning-off the American Apparel-wearing, bearded dad character in Toyota Sienna commercials into a sitcom called Hipster Dad. Jeremy, Aaron, and I planned out the first season:
Ep. 01 - Pilot
Things with Joe—the new, ex-jock neighbor—get off...

Yesterday I had to parallel park while getting lunch. It was a tight squeeze but I made it surprisingly easy. Like, it could have been used in one of those silly videos you had to watch in driver’s ed. I felt pretty good about myself as I turned off the car. A guy walking by on the sidewalk watching even gave me a thumbs up.

Tetris Tetris Everywhere →
You know you’ve been playing too much Tetris when you start seeing colored, falling blocks when you’re away from the computer.
This Flickr group, Tetris Tetris Everywhere, mixes instances where actual Tetris blocks have been placed in the real world with real world images that look like they’ve come straight out of Tetris. Shipping containers, construction sites, beer crates,...

'Yo-Yo Champion' K-Strass Tricks TV Stations →
From NPR:
It seems he claims to be a yo-yo champion who uses his skills to spread a message about environmental awareness. But once he’s on the air, it becomes clear that K-Strass is not what he seems. He’s more “no-yo” than yo-yo.
There’s a video on the page, and a few others on the official K-Strass site. They’re way more hilarious than you can even...

inkiworld asked: Hi Justin! I think it was me who asked about the scanning!
I have a good scanner at home, but I never get to scan the texture that's in the white polaroid frame. How do you get it? :)
Thanks! Greetings, from the Netherlands!

Mumblecore Going Mainstream
First, Greta Gerwig starred in Greenberg. Now the Duplass Brothers are about to release Cyrus, their studio debut, starring John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill. It looks awesome.
I think the weirdest thing about all this is that the film is produced by Ridley Scott.

As I was rushing to finish the final draft of my thesis I emailed my thesis advisor in a panic about how I was afraid the revisions and edits I had been making were minimal for I was becoming too familiar with the work and losing perspective. He responded:
Putting it aside for a month or two after you’re done with the thesis is an excellent idea; one does lose perspective after a time. I’ve...

Rog: Graceland is totally my favorite Vampire Weekend album.
me: Yeah, this is totally my favorite Vampire Weekend song.
Matt: Wait, this isn't Vampire Weekend. Is it?

The Golden Age of Movie Critics →
“Forget about becoming a film critic. Become an intellectual, a person to whom ideas matter. Read in history, science, politics, and the arts generally. Develop your own ideas, and see what sparks they strike in relation to films.” (via synecdoche)
My favorite Roger Ebert quote is, and forever will be, this, though.

Free Comic Book Day is Saturday →
Free Comic Book Day is this Saturday. As I said last year, basically you go to your local shop and they have a ton of free books published by Marvel and DC specifically for this day to promote the movie adaptations of their big releases this summer, such as Iron Man, Superman, and Green Hornet. Lots of stores usually open their bargain bins for free to clear out inventory so you can can pick up...

Time Traveler Caught in Museum Photo? →
The man with what appears to be very modern sunglasses seems to be wearing a stamped T-shirt with a nice sweater, all the while holding a portable compact camera! Internet people reached to the obvious conclusion: it’s a time traveller caught on camera on 1940! Finally, we have proof!
Every half-meter. Everywhere.

Eight year-olds hate people who say Pluto isn’t a planet. My favorite is the one where the student draws Saturn with tear-filled eyes asking where his/her friend Pluto has gone.

Impossible Project PX100 Silver Shade/First Flush →
The Holga Blog did a fantastic, in-depth review of The Impossible Project’s first release of new Polaroid film, the PX100 Silver Shade. The film is supposedly VERY challenging (it’s extremely sensitive to heat and light—no more watching the film develop!) which is good and bad, I guess. The TZ Artistic looks to be a better option, though it won’t work with with the SLR-680.
