Senators fire head coach John Paddock (CBC News) →
Sally and I, along with two other Paddock sisters, were there last night to witness the slaughtering. Figures, the one time I root against the Bruins they register their strongest win of the season. From there, things got worse outside the hotel.

Smarmy TSN reporter: Hey, Sens fan, eh?
Us: (looking at our hats and shirts) Yes.
Smarmy TSN reporter: Yeah, tough loss. I know how it's been, I cover the team. Don't worry though, good news on the horizon; they're going to fire Paddock tomorrow.
Sally: That's not good news.
Smarmy TSN reporter: What are you talking about, how is it not?
Anna: We're his daughters.

Writing down insanely complicated Metroid passwords has to be mine, especially deciphering the difference between ‘0’ and ‘O’. That and reading Nintendo Power. ZING.

Deadspin reading
Where’s Justin? (HINT: I’m the one in the tie that’s NOT a photo of the insufferable Jack Welch.) I always find text funnier when I hear it read aloud at readings or on audiobooks. Does this make me a bad reader? And it’s not about that contagious laughter thing because I got the same feeling listening to Kavalier and Clay alone in my car last spring. Anyway, last...

As it always is in love there was no beginning, just a sudden recognition of its existence, an unlocking of consciousness. What was once dismissed in sappy pop songs and drowned in cheap, domestic beers was now there, at the left corner of the table, behind a plate of spicy bean curd in garlic sauce, awkwardly picking at bamboo shoots with her chopsticks. She is tall—you can tell even when...

I went to about seventeen Game Stops today looking for some stupid Midway Arcade collection so I can play KLAX on my Wii. There was nothing. Failure. I wish Nintendo would release this when Wii Ware games go live later this year and incorporate online play and leader boards but that will never happen. I’m beginning to think A-Punk is the greatest song ever written.

You’ve Got Mail is on TV right now. I think Greg Kinnear’s character is sort of like a lame version of Jonathan Franzen.

Eugene Mirman was on Fair Game last week and talked about how he is writing a fake advice book called The Will to Whatevs. This, I am told, will be the greatest book ever written since, well, this.

I find the disproportion in the ratio between Beatles and Rolling Stones record sales and play on classic rock stations strange. I realize that the Stones have been around for an extra thirty-eight years but who listens to all their post-Some Girls shit anyway?

Who is among our country’s most voracious readers? You guessed it, Art Garfunkel. According to a column in The New Yorker Garfunkel has kept a list of every book he’s read since 1968. “I read for the reading pleasure, not for the gold star,” he proclaims. “I avoid fluff.” G-funk also poo-poos postmodern fiction (“I thought it was fraudulent.”) Thanks Art. I think I was happier...

Christian: True story: I once won a Van Gogh look-a-like contest. I was on TV and in the Boston Globe, even! Are you sure you don’t mean a Seth Green look-a-like contest?
