I moved out of my apartment today. I lived there for two years—with Kevin and Sally along with Jeff subletting for three months in between—but it seemed longer. Moving out is always so depressing for me; for some reason they always feel like it’s the ending to some cheesy sitcom to me. I even picture credits quietly flashing on the screen after I give that last nostalgic look...

'Biggest drawing in world' revealed as hoax →
Erik Nordenankar’s self-portrait – which straddles the entire globe – was allegedly created by tracing the route taken by the specially-primed case on its 55-day journey around the world. The artist claimed he gave the case to DHL, the package delivery firm, with exact co-ordinates detailing the stages of its tour. I’ve always wanted to stage a hoax in which I appear to...

Shouldn’t bands remake albums? I mean, as opposed to the half-assed covers that show up as b-sides every now and then. It happens in the film and television industries. Even comic books do it. Imagine The Long Blondes covering Blondie’s Parallel Lines, Vampire Weekend doing Graceland or The Strokes covering Marquee Moon.

iamtherog: it only seems appropriate that i begin my latest endeavor with a list of failed projects and why i did not complete them, with an arbitrary number stating how likely it is that i will complete said project. project: “large beaver” fuzz pedal from “build your own clone” reason i failed to complete it: ran out of time before going on tour, populated the board, all i have left to do...

If you think M. Night Shyamalan’s movies are as silly and terrible as I do, you’ll be excited to know the twist ending to The Happening is, apparently, his worst yet. I think M. Night should do a film adaptation of an O. Henry or Guy de Maupassant story and have the twist ending be that THERE IS NO TWIST AT ALL.

The Northeast has a terrible fast food selection. I learned this on the road trip Jess and I took last summer. Not that I’m a big purveyor of burgers and fries, but there’s a plethora of selections beyond the borders of New England that are unimaginable to our McDonald’s and Burger King minds. For example, were you aware that there is a chain of restarants in Virginia and the...

The Office season finale was better than I expected. Was totally sure Jim would propose to Pam and she’d either give him an ambiguous answer leading to an awful cliffhanger ending, so I appreciated the silly curveball they threw with Dwight and Angela instead. Still, the whole return was sort of anti-climatic; there were only six episodes after the strike and almost all were throw-aways that...

TMBG Dunkin' Donuts Commercials →
I’m not sure if most people enjoy these as much as Kevin and I do (even though we originally dismissed them because of that TERRIBLE “And last but not least… karate!” one that NESN ran between every half inning of Red Sox games in 2006) but This Might Be a Wiki compiled all of them into a neat package. I’m surprised there are so many I haven’t seen. “Alarm...

The sound card in my Wii failed Saturday morning. The video is working normally but there is no sound for any game or on any of the channels and after hours of troubleshooting, I’m sure it’s the card. This mysteriously happened Saturday, which was the first time I powered on my Wii since I installed the useless Spyware Nintendo Channel on Thursday. I would highly advise against...

Ten Worst Moms Ever: Enid Lambert from The... →
I used to like Lev Grossman because he wrote an article on the concept of the voice of our generation that included Michael Chabon and the Jonathans Franzen and Lethem (and also because I mistakenly thought he wrote this book my Dad bought for me a few birthdays ago) but I particularly like him now because of his inclusion of Enid Lambert in Time’s list of the worst Moms ever: Enid...

The Day the Music Dies →
“So what happens on August 31, 2008? On that day, Microsoft will turn off the servers that they maintain for the sole purpose of validating that the songs that people have already “purchased” through MSN Music are still theirs to play. Those people will not notice the change right away. The victims will only notice it when they purchase a new computer, or when they upgrade the operating...

Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard
Julio Franco retired from baseball today. He made his major league debut on April 23, 1982 which is almost exactly seven months before I was born. He was still playing in MLB as a 48 year-old last September with the Braves and spent the first month of this season in Mexico. To put the length of his career in perspective, I’ve copy and pasted this piece of trivia from Wikipedia: (It’s...
