Travis Morrison
Interview, Stranded In Stereo, 2007
Travis was the lead singer of The Dismemberment Plan until they disbanded in 2003. I spoke with him as he was releasing his second solo album, All Y’all, about the record, The Plan, Axl Rose, long distance running, and my ideas for a possible “The Dismemberment Plan Is Broke!” reunion tour.
“In My Fourth Grade Life”
Short story, Identity Theory, 2006
I once knew a girl who rode her bike around the block because she wasn’t allowed to cross the street, that would eat ice cream sandwiches with the paper on them and—if she was in a really good mood—would throw on a purple mini-bikini and run through the sprinkler.
“Carmel Apple Fig Newtons”
Humor, McSweeney’s, 2005
The fine folks at Nabisco had messed up the caramel-to-apple ratio. (Apparently, their mathematical skills are inferior to those of their famous namesake—or was it Isaac N. who was named for the famous sandwich cake? Neither.) One can vaguely taste the “apple” if the edges are eaten and the overpowering center is avoided, but otherwise it’s Caramel City, where nobody interesting lives and the garbage men are on strike all the time.

Edited submissions and worked on the layout of Emmanuel College’s literary magazine. I also designed and maintained the (now defunct) website.

Christmas in Allston
Deck The Halls, Merry Crimble
Though this Christmas album was nearly three years in the making, it was recorded in its entirety between November 16th and December 14th of 2006 by Kevin Fowler in his bedroom. All instruments and sleigh bells performed by Roger, Justin and Kevin. Much to our surprise, “Christmas in Allston” made its way onto the airwaves at WMBR at least once.

The Flower Song
Recorded, in true indie rock fashion, in a basement on a 10-track (albeit a digital one) over the Thanksgiving and winter breaks of 2002. Sadly, the members disbanded right before the final two songs were completed, demos were packaged, attention of major independent labels were caught, and seven figure deals signed.
